An Act

To establish Department of Energy policy for science and energy research and development programs, and reform National Laboratory management and technology transfer programs, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa­tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short Title; Table of Contents.

(a)
Short Title.— This Act may be cited as the “Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act”.
(b)

SEC. 2. Definitions.

In this Act:
(1)
Department.— The term “Department” means the Department of Energy.
(2)
Director.— The term “Director” means the Director of the Office of Science of the Department, except as otherwise indicated.
(3)
National laboratory.— The term “National Laboratory” has the meaning given that term in section 2 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (42 U.S.C. 15801).
(4)
Secretary.— The term “Secretary” means the Secretary of Energy.
