# §5203. Purpose


It is the purpose of this chapter—

- (1) to increase the effectiveness of the Department of Agriculture in agricultural trade policy formulation and implementation and in assisting [United States](/usc/7/6402.md?p=8) agricultural [producers](/usc/7/6802.md?p=4-A-iii-III-bb) to participate in international agricultural trade, by strengthening the operations of the Department of Agriculture; and
- (2) to improve the competitiveness of [United States](/usc/7/6402.md?p=8) [agricultural commodities](/usc/7/5602.md?p=1) and products in the world market.
