# §14514. Reciprocity for foreign vessels


For a [foreign vessel](/usc/46/110.md) not measured under [chapter 143](/usc/46/chstII-ptJ-ch143.md), if the [Secretary](/usc/46/2101.md?p=46) finds that the laws and regulations of a foreign country related to measurement of [vessels](/usc/46/115.md) are substantially similar to those of this chapter and the regulations prescribed under this chapter, the [Secretary](/usc/46/2101.md?p=46) may accept the measurement and [certificate](/usc/46/55104.md?p=a-1) of a [vessel](/usc/46/115.md) of that foreign country as complying with this chapter and the regulations prescribed under this chapter.
