# §8241. Definitions


As used in the part—

- (1) The term “Federal agency” means—
  - (A) an Executive agency as defined in [section 105 of title 5](/usc/5/105.md); and
  - (B) each entity specified in [subparagraphs (B) through (I)](#1-B..1-I) of subsection (1) of [section 5721 of title 5](/usc/5/5721.md).
- (2) The term “Federal building” means any [building](/usc/42/6881.md?p=i-3) or other structure owned in whole or part by the [United States](/usc/42/403.md?p=k) or any [Federal agency](#1), including any such structure occupied by a [Federal agency](#1) under a lease-acquisition [agreement](/usc/42/1320b–8.md?p=a-3-A) under which the [United States](/usc/42/403.md?p=k) or a [Federal agency](#1) will receive fee simple title under the terms of such [agreement](/usc/42/1320b–8.md?p=a-3-A) without further negotiation.
- (3) The term “solar heating” means, with respect to any [Federal building](#2), the use of solar [energy](/usc/42/6311.md?p=7) to meet all or part of the heating needs of such [building](/usc/42/6881.md?p=i-3) (including hot water), or all or part of the needs of such [building](/usc/42/6881.md?p=i-3) for hot water.
- (4) The term “solar heating and cooling” means the use of solar [energy](/usc/42/6311.md?p=7) to provide all or part of the heating needs of a [Federal building](#2) (including hot water) and all or part of the cooling needs of such [building](/usc/42/6881.md?p=i-3), or all or part of the needs of such [building](/usc/42/6881.md?p=i-3) for hot water.
- (5) The term “solar energy equipment” means equipment for [solar heating](#3) or [solar heating and cooling](#4).
- (6) The term “Secretary” means the Secretary of [Energy](/usc/42/6311.md?p=7).
