# §4770. Limitations on availability of funds for cost sharing


Federal [funds](/usc/42/12854.md?p=3) made available to [State](/usc/42/4762.md?p=3) or [local governments](/usc/42/4762.md?p=4) under other [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) may not be used by the [State](/usc/42/4762.md?p=3) or [local government](/usc/42/4762.md?p=4) for [cost-sharing](/usc/42/18022.md?p=c-3-A) purposes under grant provisions of this chapter, except that Federal [funds](/usc/42/12854.md?p=3) of a [program](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) financed wholly by Federal [funds](/usc/42/12854.md?p=3) may be used to pay a pro-rata share of such cost sharing. [State](/usc/42/4762.md?p=3) or [local government](/usc/42/4762.md?p=4) [funds](/usc/42/12854.md?p=3) used for cost sharing on other federally assisted [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) may not be used for cost sharing under grant provisions of this chapter.
