# §2346. Occupancy by existing tenants


Upon application by any occupant of a [single](/usc/42/2304.md?p=m) or duplex house made within the period of the first priority when such house is first offered for sale under this chapter, the [Commission](/usc/42/2000ff.md?p=1) shall execute a lease to such occupant for a period not to exceed one year from the date on which such property is first offered for sale, or for such period as he remains a [project](/usc/42/11360.md?p=20)-connected [person](/usc/42/1320a–7k.md?p=d-4-C-i), whichever is shorter. In selling any house with respect to which a lease executed under this section is in effect, the [Commission](/usc/42/2000ff.md?p=1) may provide that the purchaser shall assume any or all obligations of the lessor, but the [Commission](/usc/42/2000ff.md?p=1) shall guarantee the lessee’s performance under the terms of the lease.
