# §20987. Grants for online child safety programs

- (a) **In general—** The Attorney General shall, subject to the availability of appropriations, make grants to [States](#b), units of local government, and nonprofit organizations for the purposes of establishing and maintaining [programs](/usc/34/60701.md?p=2) with respect to improving and educating children and parents in the best ways for children to be safe when on the Internet.
- (b) **Definition of State—** For purposes of [this section](/usc/34/50105.md), the term “State” means any State of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
- (c) **Authorization of appropriations—** There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out [this section](/usc/34/50105.md) such sums as are necessary for fiscal years 2007 through 2011.
