# §7717. Personnel outside the United States

- (a) **Assignment to United States embassies—** An [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) of the [Corporation](/usc/22/7702.md?p=6), including an individual detailed to or contracted by the [Corporation](/usc/22/7702.md?p=6), may be assigned to a [United States](/usc/22/1395.md?p=a-1) diplomatic mission or consular post or a [United States](/usc/22/1395.md?p=a-1) Agency for International Development field mission.
- (b) **Privileges and immunities—** The Secretary of State shall seek to ensure that an [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) of the [Corporation](/usc/22/7702.md?p=6), including an individual detailed to or contracted by the [Corporation](/usc/22/7702.md?p=6), and the members of the [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) of such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1), while the [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) is performing duties in any country or place outside the [United States](/usc/22/1395.md?p=a-1), enjoy the privileges and immunities that are enjoyed by a member of the [Foreign](/usc/22/3146.md?p=1) Service, or the [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) of a member of the [Foreign](/usc/22/3146.md?p=1) Service, as appropriate, of comparable rank and salary of such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1), if such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) or a member of the [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) of such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) is not a national of or permanently resident in such country or place.
- (c) **Responsibility of chief of mission—** An [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) of the [Corporation](/usc/22/7702.md?p=6), including an individual detailed to or contracted by the [Corporation](/usc/22/7702.md?p=6), and a member of the [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) of such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1), shall be subject to [section 3927 of this title](/usc/22/3927.md) in the same manner as [United States](/usc/22/1395.md?p=a-1) Government [employees](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) while the [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) is performing duties in any country or place outside the [United States](/usc/22/1395.md?p=a-1) if such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) or member of the [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) of such [employee](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) is not a national of or permanently resident in such country or place.
