# §4025. Training grants

- (a) **Family members attending approved programs of study; limitations—** To facilitate [training](/usc/22/8921.md?p=3) provided to members of [families](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) of [Government](/usc/22/3902.md?p=7) [employees](/usc/22/4341.md?p=1) under this subchapter, the [Secretary](/usc/22/277d–43.md?p=5) may make grants (by advance payment or by reimbursement) to [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2) members attending approved [programs](/usc/22/3383.md?p=6) of study. No such grant may exceed the amount actually expended for necessary costs incurred in conjunction with such attendance.
- (b) **Compensation for individuals unable to participate in language training furnished by Government—** If a member of the Service who is assigned [abroad](/usc/22/3902.md?p=1), or a member of his or her [family](/usc/22/4304a.md?p=c-2), is unable to participate in language [training](/usc/22/8921.md?p=3) furnished by the [Government](/usc/22/3902.md?p=7) through the institution or otherwise, the [Secretary](/usc/22/277d–43.md?p=5) may compensate that individual for all or part of the costs of language [training](/usc/22/8921.md?p=3), related to the assignment [abroad](/usc/22/3902.md?p=1), which is undertaken at a public or private institution.
