# §76dd. Director, administrator, curators, and other personnel; appointment, compensation, and duties


The [Board](/usc/20/4702.md?p=2) of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution may appoint and fix the compensation and duties of a [director](/usc/20/9101.md?p=3) and, subject to his supervision, an administrator and two curators of the Joseph H. Hirshhorn [Museum](/usc/20/80r–1.md?p=3) and Sculpture Garden, none of whose appointment, compensation, or duties shall be subject to the civil service laws or [chapter 51](/usc/20/ch51.md) and subchapter III of [chapter 53](/usc/5/chptIII-sptD-ch53.md) of title 5. The [Board](/usc/20/4702.md?p=2) of Regents may employ such other [officers](/usc/20/1094.md?p=i-5) and employees as may be necessary for the efficient administration, operation, and maintenance of the Joseph H. Hirshhorn [Museum](/usc/20/80r–1.md?p=3) and Sculpture Garden.
