# §75f. Director; appointment and compensation; officers and employees

- (a) The [Board](/usc/20/75a.md?p=a) may appoint and fix the compensation and duties of a [director](/usc/20/9101.md?p=3) of the [Gallery](/usc/20/75a.md?p=c), and his appointment and salary shall not be subject to the civil-service laws or [chapter 51](/usc/20/ch51.md) and subchapter III of [chapter 53](/usc/5/chptIII-sptD-ch53.md) of title 5. The [Board](/usc/20/75a.md?p=a) may employ such other [officers](/usc/20/1094.md?p=i-5) and employees as may be necessary for the efficient administration, operation, and maintenance of the [Gallery](/usc/20/75a.md?p=c).
- (b) The [Board](/usc/20/75a.md?p=a) may delegate to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, as well as to the [Commission](/usc/20/75a.md?p=b), any of its functions pursuant to [subsection (a)](#a) of this section.
