# §5984. Definitions


For purposes of this subchapter—

- (1) the term “eligible entity” means a [State educational agency](/usc/20/1003.md?p=20), an [institution of higher education](/usc/20/1015b.md?p=b-5) or a [State higher education agency](#2), or a [public](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-3) or private nonprofit organization, with experience in coordinating or conducting teacher training seminars in American government and civics education, or a consortium thereof; and
- (2) the term “State higher education agency” means the [officer](/usc/20/1094.md?p=i-5) or agency primarily responsible for the [State](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-13) supervision of higher education.
