# §758e. Central, Western, and South Pacific Ocean fisheries development program


The [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of Commerce (hereafter referred to in [sections 758e to 758e–5](/usc/16/758e..758e–5.md) of this title as the “[Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1)”) is authorized to carry out, directly or by contract, with the Pacific [Fisheries](/usc/16/1383a.md?p=o-1) Development [Foundation](/usc/16/450ss–1.md?p=1) or other agency or organization, a [program](/usc/16/460ss–6.md?p=1) for the development of the tuna and other latent [fisheries](/usc/16/1383a.md?p=o-1) [resources](/usc/16/410hhh–1.md?p=8) of the [Central, Western, and South Pacific Ocean](/usc/16/758e–4.md). The [program](/usc/16/460ss–6.md?p=1) shall include, but not be limited to, exploration for, and stock assessment of, tuna and other fish; improvement of harvesting techniques; gear development; biological resource monitoring; and an economic evaluation of the potential for tuna and other [fisheries](/usc/16/1383a.md?p=o-1) in such [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A).
