# §5608. Administrative matters

- (a) **Prohibition on compensation—** A [person](/usc/16/5609.md?p=12) shall not receive any compensation from the Government by reason of any service of the [person](/usc/16/5609.md?p=12) as—
  - (1) a [Commissioner](/usc/16/3601.md?p=3), Alternate [Commissioner](/usc/16/3601.md?p=3), [Representative](/usc/16/5609.md?p=13), or Alternative [Representative](/usc/16/5609.md?p=13);
  - (2) an expert or adviser authorized under [section 5601(e) of this title](/usc/16/5601.md?p=e); or
  - (3) a member of the consultative [committee](/usc/16/941b.md?p=1) established by [section 5607 of this title](/usc/16/5607.md).
- (b) **Travel and expenses—** The Secretary of State shall, subject to the availability of appropriations, pay all necessary travel and other expenses of [persons](/usc/16/5609.md?p=12) described in [subsection (a)(1)](#a-1) and of not more than six experts and advisers authorized under [section 5601(e) of this title](/usc/16/5601.md?p=e) with respect to their actual performance of their official duties pursuant to this chapter, in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulations and sections [5701](/usc/5/5701.md), [5702](/usc/5/5702.md), [5704 through 5708](/usc/5/5704..5708.md), and [5731](/usc/5/5731.md) of title 5.
- (c) **Status as Federal employees—** A [person](/usc/16/5609.md?p=12) shall not be considered to be a Federal employee by reason of any service of the [person](/usc/16/5609.md?p=12) in a capacity described in [subsection (a)](#a), except for purposes of injury compensation and tort claims liability under [chapter 81](/usc/5/chptIII-sptG-ch81.md) of title 5 and [chapter 171](/usc/28/chptVI-ch171.md) of title 28, respectively.
