# §160. Congressional declaration of purpose


The purpose of this subchapter is to [preserve](/usc/16/410hhh–1.md?p=7), for the inspiration and enjoyment of present and future generations, the outstanding scenery, geological conditions, and waterway [system](/usc/16/668ee.md?p=14) which constituted a part of the historic route of the Voyageurs who contributed significantly to the opening of the Northwestern United States.
