# §1155. Statement of benefits

- (a) **Before Separation.—** Not later than 30 days before a [member](/usc/10/1408.md?p=a-5) retires, is released, is discharged, or otherwise separates from the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) (or as soon as is practicable in the case of an unanticipated separation), the [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-9) shall provide that [member](/usc/10/1408.md?p=a-5) with a current assessment of all benefits to which that [member](/usc/10/1408.md?p=a-5) may be entitled under laws administered by—
  - (1) the Secretary of Defense; and
  - (2) the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- (b) **Statement for Reserves.—** The [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-9) shall provide a [member](/usc/10/1408.md?p=a-5) of a [reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) component with a current assessment of benefits described in [subsection (a)](#a) upon release of that [member](/usc/10/1408.md?p=a-5) from [active duty](/usc/10/101.md?p=d-1).
